Key Interiors designs and builds complete home renovations across Auckland — layout, kitchens, bathrooms, structural work and finishes, managed end to end with a fixed price after design.
Key Interiors · Est. Auckland
Renovating room by room means living on a building site for years, paying for the same trades to come back again and again, and ending up with spaces that never quite flow. A whole-home renovation solves the house as one — the layout, the light, the warmth and the finish, all considered together.
Key Interiors is a true design-and-build studio. We take your home from tired to finished under one roof — design, consent, structural work, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery, wiring, plumbing, insulation and paint — with one project manager and one fixed price after design. No gaps between designer and builder. No chasing trades. No nasty surprises.
What's involved
A full renovation is dozens of trades and decisions pulling in one direction — that's exactly what a design-and-build studio is built for.
Reworking how the home lives — opening up living spaces, improving flow, and connecting indoors to out.
Removing walls, re-piling, additions and second storeys — the structural work that unlocks the home's potential, consented and engineered.
The hard-working rooms, designed and built in-house to the same standard as our standalone kitchen and bathroom projects.
Full rewire, replumb, insulation and double glazing — the unglamorous upgrades that make an old Auckland home genuinely liveable.
Custom cabinetry throughout — wardrobes, vanities, entertainment and storage, made to fit every room.
Flooring, tiling, lighting and a master-painter finish on every surface — the detail that ties the whole home together.
From a heritage villa restoration to a full modern transformation — designed for how your family actually lives.

Modernising character Auckland homes — warm, dry and liveable, with the heritage detail protected and restored.

Opening homes up and out — new living spaces, additions and seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Full transformations that rework the whole home around how your family lives, gathers and relaxes.

The biggest risk in a full renovation isn't the building work — it's the gaps between people. Designer blaming builder. Builder chasing trades. Costs creeping with every hand-off. Because we design and build under one roof, there's nowhere for those gaps to hide. One team owns the outcome.
We visit your home, understand how you want to live, and map an honest scope, plan and budget range for the whole project.

As a guide, Auckland renovations run about $2,000–$4,500 per m², and high-end work past $5,500. Pre-1940s villas can cost more once old wiring, plumbing or framing is uncovered — so we build in contingency and give you a fixed price after design, so the number you sign off is the number you pay.

Once you sign off your design, your build price doesn't move — we wear the difference, not you. Every home is delivered by one accountable team and finished to our master-painter standard, and if a detail isn't right at handover, we make it right. That's the deal.

Most full home renovations in Auckland cost between $2,000 and $4,500 per square metre, with high-end work pushing past $5,500. In dollar terms, a mid-range whole-home renovation typically runs $80,000 to $160,000, a full villa or bungalow renovation from around $200,000, and a larger or premium home $360,000 to $780,000 or more. Pre-1940s villas can run higher once old wiring, plumbing or framing is uncovered. After your design phase, we give you a fixed price — so you know exactly what you're investing before the build begins.
Most full home renovations take around 3 to 6 months on site, depending on size, structural scope and consent. Design, selections and consent add time before that, so a whole-home project is usually a 9 to 12 month journey end to end. Your dedicated project manager gives you a clear programme before the build starts.
Usually, yes. Most whole-home renovations involve structural changes, plumbing or drainage relocation, or additions that require building consent — and heritage or character overlays can add resource consent. We manage the consent process for you, from documentation through to sign-off.
For a full home renovation, most families move out for the main works — it's faster, safer and far less stressful. For staged projects it can sometimes be done in zones while you remain in part of the home. We'll talk you through the best approach during your Renovation Roadmap.
